THEY CAME TO LONDON

An assemblage of individuals in incidents of resistance and escape from the occupied countries to London where they came ""because they wanted to fight"". A somewhat wordy, but fervent fictionalization of representative cases. There is Jean Platin --who because of his father joined Vichy, then because of Genevieve joined de Gaulle; Torgensen who crossed from Norway in a motor boat; Kuo Hsi, the little Chinese professor who presented China's cause; the Italian pilot who fought for the Loyalists in Spain; the Pole and the Czech from Lidice; the Serb who fights under Mikhailovitch; Greek Father Christos who rescues his ikon from the Germans; von Hoyst, German film star, who is married to a Jewess and loses her; a Danish ceramicist who refuses to collaborate, a Dutch publisher who thinks he'll stay neutral but doesn't; etc. Almost too much.....
