THE HEALING OF PERSONS

This latest addition to the stream of translations of the work of the widely known Swiss psychiatrist was written in 1940. Its concern is the relation between what goes on in the mind to the genesis of disease and the process of healing. It belongs in the field described by the French phrase, medicine de la personne, which includes but goes beyond the term, psychosomatic medicine. Chapters are titled: Medicine and Life; Concerning Tuberculosis; Other Physical Diseases; Functional and Psychical Disturbances; The Knowledge of Man; Temperaments; Conflicts; Flight; etc. As in other books, the author makes considerable use of case reports to illustrate and develop his ideas. These cases tend to grow somewhat monotonous and would appear often to be interchangeable. The book will be welcomed by the widening circle of readers who have found Dr. Tournier's previous books both interesting and helpful.
