KIRKUS REVIEW

Only the spirit of Christ can free men from their natural tendencies ..... only the spirit of Christ can free them from formalism, independence, greed, and resentment, all of which stand in the way of the spirit of fellowship."" In this brief paragraph, the very last in his book Escape From Loneliness, Paul Tournier, a French speaking , summarizes for his readers the thesis of some excellent chapters which preceded. Convincingly outlined are the destructive nature to the human personality of what Dr. Tournier calls the parliamentary spirit, the spirit of independence, the spirit of and the spirit of just demands! Only the spirit of fellowship most perfectly by the Christian fellowship at its best can restore any depth to human relationships and relieve the terrible sense of loneliness which so many of us experience. This is a refreshing book extremely well translated from the French by John , and excellent reading for the professional or the layman.
