It's an immediate Northern juvenile quandary that gets a lot of discussion among small children -- which is preferable? Summer or winter? The rhyme is clever and has great dignity as the stanzas alternate between the satisfactions that Annabella Peach finds in masses of soft summer beach sand while her friend, Joseph J. Tempestossed welcomes the extra clothing and the challenges that go with ice and snow. The illustrations are done in very clean lines, their near severity softened by their miniature size and the use of primary colors. The delicacy of sand and snow is suggested in the dotted marginal decorations. Small, handsome, quiet reading.
