BRAVO, MARCO! by Pauline Priolo

... and bravo Serafina, who is an elusive, stubborn Ferdinand-among-burros. Ferdinand wouldn't fight in the ring; Serafina won't pull the gaily painted cart. And so Marco remembers that the burro had travelled with a puppet show; he begins to play his bagpipe, and the burro leaps into anxious action, and unlike Ferdinand, ceases to be a lazy dreamer. The many drawings (by the author), in hot reds and yellows, strongly echo sunny Italy and the exuberant Italian villagers. An Italian text below the English will be of interest to young Italian students or parents who have the desire to instruct.
