PEG BRACKEN'S APPENDIX TO THE I HATE TO COOK BOOK

You all remember Peg Bracken, she of the jollified approach to pot banging and the dreary day-to-day of cooking? Now that the I Hate To Cook Book is soaring nicely among the like-minded, Miss Bracken has published some after-thoughts and plenty of recipes six years after the fact. Again the tone is brisk and funny, and again the author hesitates not to jostle standard cookbook practice. Of course, declaims Miss Bracken, almost anything can be arrested in the cooking process part way through, and heated later! Slice, do not pull English muffins apart, in the interests of toaster health: why bother to use -- and therefore clean -- a garlic press? There are marvellous names for intriguing recipes: Huntley and Brinkley Hollandaise sauce (cook while watching the news); Shivering Elizabeth, etc. A delectable section on eating alone, on diets, on picnics, shopping, foreign specialties. In all, great fun: a perfect gift book which should ride on the success of author's last.
