Mrs. Manage, the New World's answer to witches, is a fair-minded soul. She expects something of value from each child who demands a wish from her. Mrs. Manage assumes varied guises to different children. To one little girl, the good American witch, Mrs. Manage, grants curls in just the desired color; to a boy she gives the power to be an artist in exchange for faithful daily effort on his behalf.
