The literal-minded housemaid has lost about 20 years and as many pounds at the hands of this new illustrator; unfortunately her talent for turning everyday English phrases inside out has also diminished. Fired for putting breakfast food in the cup when Mrs. Rogers asks for cereal with her coffee, Amelia tries working at a beauty shop (where she ""pins up"" a lady's hair with safety pins), a dress shop (where she ""shortens"" the skirts with scissors), an office (where she ""files"" the papers with a nail file), and a medical center (where she ""puts the doctor's gloves on"" herself). If the maid's previous escapades gave a child-pleasing boost to the lowest form of humor, her return is a dismal let-down. Will the real Amelia Bedelia please come back?
