Liza, Bill and Jed who found the Key to the Treasure (KR, 1966) and followed the Clues in the Woods (KR, 1968) are up to their well-scrubbed pink ears in another old family puzzle, this time engaging in a treasure hunt set up two generations ago by Grandpa's older brother John, now dead. In their efforts to turn up the hidden summer projects that Grandpa and Aunt Mary (also dead) never did find, the children follow Uncle John's sketched directions from blossoming bush to hickory tree to cave to a secret attic room, unchanged after some 60 years. The end result of all their bouncy, bubbly poking about is that Jed gets Uncle John's shell collection, Liza inherits Aunt Mary's needlework bag, Grandpa's ship model goes to Bill, and--with Grandma and Grandpa on hand for the unwrapping--all feel ""very close to each other."" An easy, innocent filler for summer readers, especially those who are aiming for a high count.
