KIRKUS REVIEW

A sequel to Beau Ideal -- but stands on its own feet as a well-told tale, with plenty of Foreign Legion background, and all the ramifications of penal colonies, flashbacks to Algiers, and sheer romantic adventure. An Anglo-Spanish blackguard meets the woman he had sworn to punish on board a ship bound for England, and goes through with his carefully laid plans of blackmail. John Geste to the rescue -- but it needs the hard of death to cut the knot. Good escape reading.
