Should she or shouldn't she--fall in love with her sister's husband Charles Vivian after the sudden death of the far more attractive, willful Sophie? Did he or didn't he--kill Sophie, although Charles is very persuasive about Sophie's depression and very quiet about his debts, his gambling and his women. This is neo-modern-post-Chappaquiddick--although it's sometimes hard to tell the difference--but the story's pleasant and written in romantic longhand which is so easy to read.
