A TREASURY OF SCIENCE

I think that matters scientific are beyond my comprehension -- and that they bore me, until I come across something like this, and then I rediscover (what certain popularizers have previously shown me) the exciting adventure of science. For people like me (a large market!) this book is designed; for scientists who would have a glimpse of other sciences. This is an up-to-date picture of modern science, with enough background material to give one a unified picture, with enough biographical sketches to humanize the abstracts, with enough serious science, enough popularization, enough semi-humorous handling to make it never dull reading. Selections have been made to fit into a pattern:-Science and the Scientist; Thy Physical World; The World of Life; The World of Man. The contributors include great scientists, great thinkers, good interpreters. A book for the long range.
