THE MONSTER MAKERS: Creators and Creations of Fantasy and Horror

A melange of monsters and their creators, starting with an obligatory snippet from Frankenstein and moving through venerable chillers by Poe, Bierce and others into a contemporary realm where the beasties range from Sturgeon's horrific moldering ""It"" to various mechanical creatures, some of whom, like Asimov's Robot AL-76, are more endearing than monstrous. There are other fine robot tales by Bradbury and Carol Emshwiller, as well as Avram Davidson's classic about a golem's housebreaking. Plus Lovecraft, Wells and others less known, including a splendid grim comedy called ""The Vivisector Vivisected"" by Sir Ronald Ross.
