KIRKUS REVIEW

This very readable volume by the author of many books on similar subjects (Living Earth, The Forests, etc.) portrays the slow, balanced choreography of our patch of earth's physical movements and changes. Mountains and seacoasts thrust up at one point to be worn down by erosion at another, the effects of water in all its forms on the contours of our land and the flora and fauna make up a beautiful book that can double as a travel guide. An appendix lists National Parks, monuments and points of interest in the various states.
