THE HUNTERS by Peter Hill

THE HUNTERS

Newcomer-comer Hill invests the procedural with life as well as method and his hunters are the members of the Yard, particularly Chief Supt. Bob Staunton with his fragile rear end, and Leo Wyndson, his insubordinate assistant, good for a bottle and a girl a day. Now they deal with the week-old body of a local girl, raped and strangled, the not-above-reproach members of the local squire's family, ""a nutter who seems normal,"" and an operative coven nearby. Well written with forthright assurance, giving a clear definition to both characters and action.
