According to the foreword, this volume in the ""Encyclopedia of Health"" series ""locates the source of stress in contemporary society and considers formal strategies for coping with it."" Unfortunately, the writing here is so technical, stilted, and jargon-filled that most young people will find it extremely difficult. Fewer than ten pages refer directly to children or teens; adolescents using the index to identify stress-management programs will find this condescending description of themselves: ""Without the help of older and wiser adults many of them [teenagers] tend to create cliques and gangs, in-groups and out-groups, to engage in the aimless or dangerous risk-taking of fast cars, drugs, alcohol, meaningless sex and premature childbearing."" Lists of organizations; glossary; further reading; index.
