If the immense success of the earlier-but also posthumous- books of Peter Marshall (The Man Called Peter) provide a clue, this is certain to be another popular success with a wide public. This re-telling of the story of Jesus from the institution of the Last Supper through the Crucifixion, Resurrection and Appearances after the Resurrection will doubtless be in demand. Though the story provides more than a few touches of the preacher from time to time, and imaginative detail is added freely to round out the picture, the story is still left free to convey its own message, and the comfort and reassurance are offered on the Gospel's terms, not the writer's. It should make good Lenten reading for Protestants, though the unorthodox typographical arrangement of words and phrases on the page for emphasis and dramatic effects suggests that the material is better suited to pulpit delivery than devotional reading at home.
