Fourteen sermons of the late minister of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C. are offered here, with an introduction and brief prefatory narratives. In some instances, the editor tells us, she has combined parts of two or more sermons preached on the same theme. These are sermons addressed primarily to the young people of the congregation, but not intended exclusively for them. They center around aspects of Jesus Christ's life and teaching, as related to questions young adults might ask. The format is that in which Peter Marshall typed his manuscript, roughly resembling loose blank verse. While the force of these sermons upon young listeners under the presence of the preacher may be accepted, there is reason to ask whether they will speak to a wider audience and a generation whose problems and questions are more sophisticated and more baffling than the sermons seem to recognize.
