ALFALFA HILL

Winter comes to a New Jersey hill where the animals prepare by eating and the ""thick blanket"" of snow (""like a world full of cotton"") makes everything quiet. Quiet too are Parnall's spare black and white drawings, effective mood setters as always but unaided here by the text, which lacks the sharpness and special slant required to make Alfalfa Hill much more than a pale generalization.
