THE BEST, ENCORE

More of the best of everything, from chocolate chip cookies (Mrs. A's Choco-Crunch) to ball parks (Wrigley Field) to armed forces in the Mideast (Israel). Passell backs up his choices with fleeting defenses and tattletale histories (the frisbee's inspiration) presented with the right light touch. Best HHH statement, referring to the botched efforts of Sara Jane Moore and Squeaky Fromme: ""There are too many guns in the hands of people who don't know how to use them."" Best anniversary present for Margaux Hemingway Wetson: a solid gold french fry (crinkle-cut). Also, best car stereo, American art museum, butter, etc.--timely entries, many certain to be debated wherever the best labels gather. A good bet--but The Best (1974) was better.
