In this first book authored by a talented Czech-born illustrator, a rhinoceros is kept company by three birds until each elects a life in a landscape that matches his color: blue lake, yellow banana tree, red poppy field. Rhino wanders lonely and gray--then pursuit by bees takes him back just in time to rescue each of his three friends from a fierce predator: hyena, snake, crocodile. The story is slight, but the illustrations have the serenity and interest invoked by Sis' unique style, and would make an unusually attractive vehicle for learning the primary colors.
