BORED--NOTHING TO DO!

More pictured mischief from busy kids, in the sunny manner of Oh, Were They Ever Happy! (p. 495, J-119). But this project soon takes off from even the farthest-fetched reality when two brothers—sent outdoors to "Do something! I was never bored at your age" (Mom)—find a propeller in the barn and set about constructing an incredibly impressive airplane. It flies, and the boys have a grand time aloft; for readers, the fun comes from watching them gather up wheels (from the baby's carriage), hinges (off comes a door in the house), cloth (Ma's bedsheets), motor (from Dad's VW), etc.—and then putting everything back after their parents get over the shock of their landing. Sprightly, like . . . Were They Ever. . . . though not as close to home.
