Only Peter Spier's skill as an illustrator redeems this peculiar hybrid, a selection of Mother Goose rhymes about farm and market against a panorama of early nineteenth century New Castle (Del.), and even his skill cannot ensure a use for what is essentially an album of authentic views of town and countryside far too detailed for the simple verses and pointless for the Little Pig Went to Market audience.
