At the insistence of the Japanese, plague carrying rabbits, bred by American scientists at an installation in Okinawa, are shipped back to the U.S. But why in fragile wicker baskets and why do the Japanese choose this time to send the mutated but rehabilitated children of Hiroshima on a U.S. tour? When irate Americans learn of both rabbits and children, the stage seems set for disaster. These are the trappings of a pellmell thriller but the tone is that of Bradburian fantasy. Slightly precious, but sensitive and suspenseful withal.
