KIRKUS REVIEW

Dr. Viereck, historian, poet, Associate Prof. of History at Mt. Holyoke, Pulitzer Prize winner- here presents the case for conservatism as the solution in the world crisis. He examines the conservative path to internationalism, to freedom based on an interpretation of Metternich's political philosophy. His interpretation of Metternich is not as a reactionary, but is based on newly discovered source material. He feels that conservatives can combine with liberals to support the middle groups in order to eliminate extremes of right and left and to crush intensely nationalistic elements, as the road to free, democratic, peaceful international society. Thoughtful, well documented.
