STRIKE THROUGH THE MASK'

Some new poems and a little prose by the talented author of Terror and Decorum who von the Pulitzer Prize last year. These show streaks of pure poetic genius but do not as a whole live up to the quality of the first volume. They are too fragmentary, experimental. This is not in itself uncommendable but it weakens the effect of the volume which is chiefly to make us suspend judgment, and ask for more poems and more maturity. The prose piece entitled The Poet of the M Age is a fine clear piece of writing, with the lucidity which has now made Vireck familiar to many readers of the better magazines. This is still one of our more winged talents, for all who love new and original poetry.
