GREAT MOMENTS IN PRO FOOTBALL

By

Pub Date: Oct. 6th, 1969

Two publishers are fielding Great Moments this season (see Hollander, below) but the line-up is largely different, the style of delivery entirely so. This is the long warm-up version for veterans of sports biographies and chronologies, with lots of palaver and personal data preceding the play. Some of the games are championship contests where more was at stake than the title (called crybabies after losing a close one, the Bears trounced the Redskins in the 1940 NFL finale; new to the big-time league in 1950, Paul Brown's Clevelanders outplayed the explosive Rams). In others, one man--Norm Van Brocklin, Jimmy Brown, Paul Hornung, Gale Sayers--carries (or kicks or passes) the ball. Also included are the NFL and AFL ""sudden death"" windups, two dubbed ""the wildest games ever,"" and 1969's historic Jet-flight.
