KIRKUS REVIEW

Certainly not literature -- but not dull -- strictly 10-20-30-action story of an island off California which decoys supply ships and leaves no trace of their disappearance (a modern version of the sirens?) Then young Lt. Devon sells his idea for investigating the mysterious vanishing of some 18 ships. The destroyer Sierra at the start has no luck, rescues a man and a girl, finds the island and its ruler, The Beard, and solos against a nest of German, Japanese and other renegades. Devon, fellow officers and men explore the island's secrets, take part in a pitched battle, are saved by U S Navy planes and wipe cut all danger from the Axis.
