The author of this book was elected District Attorney in Denver, in 1920. He faced opposition to law enforcement on both fronts. The city officials were lax and corrupt; the lawless element has their well-organized spy system. Against these forces, Van Cise opened fire. This is the story of his battle, a true detective story with all the elements of thrill. The methods he used were those one reads of in spy stories -- he got his evidence -- he got his men -- and he was under fire of bribery, legal red tape, skullduggery -- but he proved it was possible to clean up a city. Market -- those who like thrillers with the element of truth; those who are civic-minded, both men and women. It is good reading, as well as good ""uplift"".
