UNCLE DEBUNKEL, or THE BARELY BELIEVABLE BEAR

Corporal Debunkel's fort needed a mascot for the big inspection parade. His nephews, Rene and Philip, have a bear rug and an urge to help. Tucking themselves into the bearskin front and rear they lumber off to the fort, scattering some hunters (who were after wolves, anyway); foiling some robbers (""Bears don't have money""); and dodging the animals they meet on their way. They save Uncle Debunkel's day and parade, not without all sorts of nonsensical incident. The adults are given a dialogue of abrupt idiocy -- the kind children assign to them when they are playing by themselves. The pictures match the text for simple fun. Easy to read alone, or aloud.
