Face this story up to a looking glass and the reflection of substance is practically nil. A beaver finds a mirror and discovers a picture of a beaver in it. Of course all the other animals to whom he shows it see their own images. Their bickering is concluded, but hardly resolved, when the mirror is dropped and smashed leaving a fragment for each of the animals to bear out its argument. In the illustrations, a squiggly crayon outline serves very satisfactorily to represent the character and humor of the individual animals. The text, however, has been pared down a little too far.
