Perhaps we aren't good critics when it comes to these Asey Mayo yarns, for we like even the poor ones. But -- objectively speaking -- this seems about middle of the road quality, a good tale up to the finale, when Asey produces some evidence and clues that the reader hasn't known about, and brings about a solution of a complicated murder disappearnce-impersonation-second murder affair. Cousin Jennie does her bit, and even the doctor's interference can't stop them.
