THE BANDS PLAY ON: The Story of Bands and Orchestras

By

Pub Date: Sept. 8th, 1942
Publisher: McBride

The publisher lists this for a group of those nine to thirteen, but it is doubtful if children would tackle it so young. Fully to appreciate the information given in this volume, it would be better to have had more schooling. There are intriguing musical facts mentioned but the author feels forced to give too much history. As the story of instruments is covered from earliest man to our present jazz bands, there is a terrific amount to digest. If there are a great many pictures that are clear and attractive, the book will have a good sized market. Anyway it will be a useful reference book and would make the basis of an excellent music course.
