An important part of this collection is the re-issue of Angry-Young Robert Louis Stevenson's blisteringly class-conscious novella, The Beach of . Dylan Thomas' screenplay of it was recently published. Meanwhile, the old seadogs and beachcombers, Maugham, Michener, Burdick, James Norman Hall, Jack London and Melville are hard-pressed by some literary unknowns in this strong collection. Among them, Frank Bullen's The Whale in the Cave in which a harpooned whale goes beserk. The stories are taut, unromantic and sometimes erupt with terror and the anthology offers a high level of excitement.
