A GIRL AND HER ROOM by Phyllis McGinley

A GIRL AND HER ROOM

By

Pub Date: Oct. 1st, 1963

The author's rhyming exploration of Betsy Belinda's room from crib-age to twelve is marred from time to time by forced rhymes and ragged meter. Long sections smoothly, and then abruptly are cut into by some poorly contrived lines. The illustrations which make use of purple in the background forms, picture a delicate perfect little lady passing through various stages on the route to twelve. Six to sighters who yearn for ten and twelve may enjoy hearing and reading the poem despite its flaws.
