DAVID by Piero Bargellini

DAVID

By

Publisher: P. J. Kenedy

Inspired by the same sort of hero-worship that inspired the Florentine artists of the Renaissance period to make David the subject of their portraits and statues, the author has attempted to give us a pen-portrait of the great hero-king of Israel. The biblical account is followed and the chief incidents in David's life included: his choice as king, the slaying of Goliath, his friendship with Jonathan, the jealousy of Soul, his military campaigns, his great sin and his subsequent condemnation by Nathan, and finally his role as poet and prophet. The author is neither a biblical scholar nor a biographer, but he has a certain poetic approach to his subject which results in a book that is not without a certain degree of charm.
