THE SECRET WORLD OF OG

Pierre Berton need not warn us that all the characters in his book are real, -- for no such unorthodox group of gamins could possibly have been invented. In order of age, they are Penny, Pamela, Patsy, Peter and the Pollywog. They are given to scrapping, playing Dress-Up, reading Mad Monster comics and devouring the entire series of Lawless Lucy, Girl Rustler -- and they are just reckless enough to be led by Pamela into the special world of green men beneath the playhouse floor when the Pollywog disappears. Because of their reading preferences, many examples of which have filtered through the floorboards, the children realize they are partially responsible for the cultural milieu of the land of Og, a combination Wonderland-Western honkytonk, and as a result they can communicate with their green captors in familiar terms. Before rescuing the Pollywog, who is perfectly at home behind bars, they run into one raucous event after another with Og-gains who are really a pleasant bunch after all. Once back in the safety of the playhouse, they decide to tell no one of this special escapade. Who would believe them anyway? Who, but every conspirator lucky enough to giggle and gape his way through?
