HYMN TO THE UNIVERSE

This small volume marks one more addition to the English translations of the writings of the late famous French Jesuit and paleontologist. Included here are Teilhard's poetic, mystical hymn, ""The Mass On The World,"" written in 1916, although not published until later. A second section offers three Histories -- short episodical stories grouped under the heading of ""Christ in The World of Matter""; and a third section gathers up a series of Pensees, selected from the author's writings, including The Phenomenon Of Man, Le Milieu Divin, and The Future Of Man, selected by Fernande Tardivel. None of the contents belongs to the scientific writings of Teilhard, but rather give the best of his mystical, poetic, and devotional thought. The book should appeal both to students of the author's work and to many readers who might wish to use it for their personal devotional reading.
