KIRKUS REVIEW

Proud of their heritage of all-black cats, Casper and Carolina are not pleased to give birth to an orange kitten who is also a nonconformist in every other way. However, "Rosie" grows up to become a rock star and eventually comes home with her own nonconforming black kitten, broadening everyone's outlook. Predictable, but related with pleasingly dry wit and raised above the ordinary by the award-winning artist's vibrant illustrations, in which subtle states of mind (suspicion, apprehension, complacency, and glee) are made wonderfully clear in the cats' body language and, especially, in their expressive eyes. A good combination of artistic merit with a contemporary story that has real appeal for children.
