Tempestuous tale of gas-lit, gilt-edged New Orleans, and of Barbara, of proud Crle aristocracy, whose revenge against the man she loved was to ricochet against her also. Engaged to a Yankee, Cushing, brilliant scientist, she rebuffs him by her reserve, only to have him marry shallow little Corinno. He returns to New Orleans- to further humiliation as Barbara, in retaliation, provokes an affair between Corinne and her cousin- and eventually, Corinno is killed- and the cost is hatred, self-respect, professional standing on both Cushing's side and Barbara's, is terrific. But they pay the cost... Melodrama, with a toujours glamour finish. Not good but rentable.
