I'D LOVE TO, BUT WHAT'LL I WEAR?

Strictly for the ladies, and only for that fractional minority who entertain in cashmere caftans and lunch in ultrasuede. Subtitled ""The Complete Women's Clothing Guide for Anytime, Anywhere,"" it covers everything from hikes (jeans, with a minimum of makeup) to private cruises and TV appearances, with ample closet space taken for granted and little evidence of a budget tucked away in one of those matching handbags. Ms. Bergen, who no longer travels with seven suitcases, knows how to dress for more occasions than most of us can even imagine, and her emphasis on elegance and understated chic becomes a big cloying when carried to extremes: ""A negligee in the wilderness can be extremely effective."" Gossamer.
