IN A WORD

Just what is the basis for selection of the words included in this trick dictionary it is hard to say. But it can be defined as a streamlined book on words and their origin and meaning, with a certain glibness, humor, originality -- balanced by a betrayal of real scholarship now and again. Illustrated in characteristic Thurber manner. I have a passion for words -- and there are many who share it, so the book should reach that market (of Herbert's What A Word, Menchen's American Language, etc.)
