THE CAPTURE OF ATTU

By

Pub Date: Dec. 1st, 1944
Publisher: The Infantry Journal

This is an attempt to ""put the reader on the battlefield with the ground soldier"" -- and through random accounts of the men who fought at Attu, to give a composite picture of groundhog warfare. The first part provides a consecutive narrative of the events leading up to the invasion -- and a brief of subsequent actions. The second part consists of personal narratives, of the 21 days and nights at Massacre Valley, of the attack on Clevesey Pass, of the landings and final breakthrough. All types of men -- outfits representing every phase of infantry fighting. Sometimes technical, but on the whole a rough, unprettified account of war as it is actually fought. Not for a wide market.
