Ricky Sanchez, a young Spanish-American boy, set out on the dangerous two hundred mile trek to take the family's flock of sheep into the Arizona mountains. Ricky wanted to be a herder like his big brother Jim. But Jim was too busy to entrust any responsibility to the boy. A little black lamb followed Ricky about until the boy extracted a cholla spine from his hide. The lamb, Bounce, returned the favor inadvertently, for when he strayed and found his way into a canyon, Jim hunted for him -- and finding him rescued many sheep which Jim had never missed.
