I, WILLIE SUTTON

The personal history of the notorious bank robber which proves-in the retrospect of repentance- the all too truism that crime does not pay-except maybe in book form and provides a lively chapter in the annals of crime. Sutton, who had his first taste of easy money-which he never lost- emptying cash registers as a youngster in Brooklyn- was later groomed by the safebreaker Doc Tate and had entree into the New York underworld where Nicky Arnstein, Arnold Rothstein and Dutch Schultz were also familiars. His particular technique, a mailman delivery disguise, tagged him as Willie the Actor- for the police as well; his marriage to Louise and hopes for a fresh start were short lived; and he spent 20 of the last 32 years in jail- and attempting to break out of it- but here sustains his innocence in the Sunnyside bank robbery (which was followed by the shooting of Arnold Shuster) for which he was last charged and convicted. A record which has the authority of fact and the vitality of fiction- for this audience which Courtroom established as a wide one.
