THE RELEVANCE OF THE PROPHETS by R. B. Y. Scott

THE RELEVANCE OF THE PROPHETS

For the past two decades, the ""standard"" non-technical work on the prophets of Israel has been that of Dr. Scott of Princeton. The present volume is a revision and mise-a-jour of that work, in the light of the great forward strides made, particularly by Jewish and Protestant theologians, in the study of the prophets and prophetic books of the Bible. It preserves intact the content and order of the original work: a definition of the concept of ""prophecy,"" the origins of the prophetic function, the prophetic succession, the prophetic word, theology of the prophets, the prophets and history, the prophets as social forces, the religion of the prophets, and, finally, the relevance of the prophets for Christian theology. The skillful up-dating of this near-classic will be welcomed by the numerous scholars, students and laymen whose enthusiasm for The Relevance of the Prophets has kept the book in print for the past twenty-three years.
