LOVE AT THE MISSION

Entirely dissimilar in theme and handling from the prize-winning novelette, -- Cargo of Parrots, this is a semi-symbolic, semi-melodramatic story of a Swiss pastor and his three Amazonian daughters in an East African mission. The father is a drab, dreary drone, resenting the intrusion of his motherless daughters. The two older girls are the victims of his inhumanity; the eldest one poisons her father to save her younger sisters and pays the penalty. Actuality in picture of the desolate life -- but the style is somewhat mannered, though poetic and challenging at times. The author has not quite found himself yet, but he has undeniable talent and originality.
