These memoirs of a country vet take us on another rustic excursion and a good one. Forty years a country veterinary among the hard-headed, soft-hearted New Englanders. It should have double appeal, -- to those who like anything about animals, and to those for whom the scalpel holds fascination. Dinsmore is a plainspoken, hearty, hard-working man, with a great pride in his profession, a profession as vital to human welfare as to animal welfare. It is a 24 hour job with little return, but he loves it and writes with zest. He cites cases, tells anecdotes; he writes of work as dairy inspector as well as private practitioner; his dog hospital provides good dog stories. A worthwhile job.
