KIRKUS REVIEW

The time is 1846 -- the setting the southwest prairies and the glamorous old Spanish-American town of Santa Fe -- the story, romance and adventure, with a Spanish dona wedded to an American officer, a Cape Codder, and an atmosphere of intrigue, plots and counterplots, and the problem of Mexican versus American allegiance in New Mexico and California. Good historical fiction, for popular reading; a safe choice for public libraries and a conservative market and rental.
