THE EVIL THAT MEN DO

A rerun on The Day of the Jackal with the Nazi torture-dentist from Marathon Man thrown in for a rich mix of action and sadism. Dr. Clement Moloch thinks of himself as one in a long line of fabled torturers, and he hires himself out to the 70 nations today who still practice torture as part of statecraft. At present he is operating in Guatemala. His method is to kill natives indiscriminately in large batches and using horrible devices--so that the rest of the population will be too will-less to fight the government. At last a couple in Mexico City decide to hire a ""Jackal""--like killer to kill the unkillable Moloch (even Mossad has failed in their attempt and been called off by the CIA--which is on Moloch's side anyway). And so super hitman Holland, for half a million bucks, leaves his retreat on the Caymans and goes forth to do battle against the preternaturally aware torture master. Holland is joined in Mexico City by Rhiana, the beautiful widow whose husband and father were killed by Moloch in a Chilean arena. Pretending to be husband and wife, they check out Moloch's house in preparation for the hit, but M.'s minions are soon chasing them instead. When Holland captures M.'s horror-diary, he blackmails the villain, setting him up for the climax. Lots of mock-documentary torture information is balanced by razor-slice storytelling.
